Tamara Powell is a Communication doctoral student at the University of California, San Diego. Her work focus on health communication, health education practices, inter-institutional coordination, and health literacy interventions to address health disparities. She combines approaches from health communication, anthropology, sociology, cultural-historical activity theory, public health, and education studies to examine how health care professionals engage in health literacy interventions with underserved populations in order to address health disparities in California.

Tamara lives in La Jolla, California with her husband, Aaron, who is a training to be a sports medicine physician. They enjoy running, biking, yoga, volleyball, reading, and drinking tea together.
